I can’t make you buy me, but here’s why you should consider it...

A few years ago my wife (for her many sins) worked for an estate agency and she realised very quickly a rule when it comes to selling:


"You can't make someone buy a house!"


It's obvious really but so many people assume selling is convincing someone to buy something they don't want. People sell to themselves first and foremost. The process of sales is really facilitating the inner self that what is on offer is what you need to solve a problem you have.


For example, on my desk I have a digital Pomodoro timer. I'm usually spinning many plates and thinking of dozens of things that need to get done but I'm also a big believer in Parkinson's Law so constraining the time alloted to a task makes me more likely to complete it on schedule. (For reference I've given myself 45 minutes to write this article and I'm 9 minutes down already so I need to hustle.) Why am i telling you this? Well, having used different apps and quickly realising that they can all be ignored with the click of a button I knew my adherence to the Pomodoro Technique was failing. In one of those wonderful chance encounters whilst doom scrolling Instagram (instead of going to sleep) an advert popped up for an on desk timer. I had a problem. A solution to said problem was presented. I spent about zero seconds considering buying it and its been on my desk gently pushing me to get things done like a benign dictator ever since.
